Before you and I existed, before the universe was born and
before the dimensions came into being, there was ONE. There was no space, no
time. Nothingness didn’t exist either. ONE was everything and everything was
ONE. ONE, however, had a desire. A desire to BE. A desire to exist. “For it to
happen”, thought ONE, “something has to BE to acknowledge my existence.”
ONE’s desire to BE, created a SOUL. It was formless in
motion, finite in existence; it could be at one place this moment, at another
the next. It existed in space and time. It had LIFE. SOUL, however, was amazed
by the spectacle that WAS. Though now finite, IT was boundless. IT was alluring;
still, yet teeming with energy. SOUL moved towards IT in amazement and asked, “What
are you?”
“I am ONE.” proclaimed ONE. SOUL was mesmerized. ONE was
everything it was not. “You allure me, ONE. You are what I desire to BE”, it
exclaimed. ONE was bemused with pride. “For as long as there is LIFE, there
will be a desire to be ONE”, IT contemplated. Indulging in its desire to BE and
be acknowledged for BEING, forever, IT proclaimed, “Whoever shall create that,
what can sustain LIFE, shall be ONE” and collapsed into infinite SOULs; each
seeking to be ONE.
In SOULs’ attempts to be ONE, LIFE flourished. Stars,
planets and Galaxies came into being. Water and air were created. All SOULs
that help LIFE flourish, became ONE. Rest, sought their desire tirelessly. Living
beings as we know them, began to evolve. Many of these complex living beings
could reason their existence, and in their attempts to help flourish LIFE,
SOULs created these beings that desired to BE. They wanted to exist as they are
for as long as they can BE. LIFE was difficult to sustain once these beings
misinterpreted LIFE as their own existence. They overruled their SOULs desire
and acted in dissonance to the harmony of creation.
ONE was perplexed, both by the behaviour of these complex
beings and by this SOUL that stood in front of IT, about to be ONE,
disappointed with what lay ahead. “You will be what you sought for so hard, why
then are you dejected?” asked ONE. “You are mistaken about what I seek for, Oh
ONE! I seek not to be ONE, but to be with a SOUL I so worship. I was a Star to
the planet it wished to be, water to the being it supported to live. I became a
deer to feed its tigress being, mother to care for it as a child. I was a whore
for its carnal desires, a friend for it to find solace in.” replied the SOUL.
ONE was shocked. A SOULs desire to not seek to be ONE will
jeopardize HIS existence as did the survival of these complex beings. LIFE
evolved not entirely how ONE believed it would. But the years had made HIM
wiser. “When I see these complex beings, it comforts me that your gifts of love
and sacrifice will help sustain LIFE”, said ONE. “You will have to be ONE for
the SOULs to learn these values. But being ONE shall no longer be all that the
SOULs seek. The harmony of creation is now for the SOULs and the complex beings
to together preserve”, continued ONE, “I give you a boon, each time the SOUL
you so worship, calls out your name, those who seek to hear it shall become ONE
for the moment”.
AUM, the SOUL, so worshipped, cries from time to time and
the SOULs and complex beings who seek to hear it become ONE for the moment
reliving the harmony of creation for a time, as ephemeral as it be.
